I have a very busy weekend ahead of me after a very busy week. I am back to taking ballet classes (I’ve so far done TWO – both equally terrifying and horrifying), I am learning how to play squash, and I have recently started playing Mahjong with the girls and freaking LOVE it. That’s on Sunday.
Am I perhaps trying to compensate for – how to put this – a certain lack of any one person in my life?
PERHAPS.
But parent’s weekend is coming up in a few weeks, so we’ll finally head up to see him in all of his collegiate glory.
And we’re taking Pax (the ONE child I have left, SOB) and a few friends to see This Should Never Be A Musical tonight. It’s basically improv, but in musical form and based on audience whims. Should be good.
Any new hobby I should consider taking up? Or should I just, ya know, get another dog?
I mean…once Pax leaves, it’s dog #2 FOR SURE.
We don’t have many…Kat (of Stone Cooper) found a few more vintage lockets for us, but this time, she strung them on a gray silk cord (hand-dyed!). The result is so stunning and cool – it feels like a really fresh way to wear a locket. Vintage lockets tend to sell out quickly (especially as the holidays get closer), so if you’re eyeing them up, I wouldn’t wait (unfortunately, we only have seven.) Part of our Modern Heirloom Collection.
Wait – Freda Salvador is 20% off. This is [breathes deeply] HUGE. I have yet to find another footwear brand who makes better shoes for city walking (oh and they’re a women-owned, small biz fyi). I almost don’t know where to begin! I think I’d start with…their woven ballet flats (I have the ‘mango multi woven calf’). I buy blister bandaids to put on my heels to break them in (it only took one wearing), and the woven leather stretches beautifully, molding to your foot. These shoes are worth the (short!!) break-in period – I literally walk miles and miles and miles in every pair of Freda shoes I own.
I think this top will be a game changer: that neckline! So flipping chic, and I can easily wear it under jackets without overheating. Oooo…also in navy.
Mother Denim just dropped a bunch of new petite jeans…but if you find they still run a little long with flats…I’ve been wearing the heck outta this pair (sized up for slouch). The length is perfect and the wash is flipping great.
Still working on updates to our 2026 cashmere guide…and this COS rounded crewneck cashmere sweater (more sizes here) might be my new top pick! I’ve been eying it for years, but it’s almost always sold out by the end of October, which, annoying. But I can see why: it might be some of the thickest, softest cashmere out there. And, FWIW, I actually tried a bunch of cashmere from COS, and I don’t think their basic cashmere crew is worth the cost.
I LOVE the styling of this outfit. I’m copying immediately. (You can also layer this top under any one of your existing tees for the same effect.)
I finally found a crossbody bag that holds a laptop and is seriously cool. Like…jaw-droppingly so. Worth adding to a holiday wishlist, for sure. (I’ve been testing it out with this strap, FYI.) Will eventually add it into our Guide to the Best Laptop Bags For Women.
I will forever and ever love cape cardigans. They’re just so dang useful and cool. I layer them over chunky sweaters that don’t typically fit under jackets.
So sophisticated, Vuori: trouser-striped workout shorts! I’ve been running in them lately, and keep getting compliments (they also look seriously cute with oversized sweaters and ballet flats, fyi). Almost sold out at Vuori, but I just spied them fully in stock at Nordstrom. I wear size medium.
Fall outfit inspo: I love the idea of wearing this 100% silk cami (on sale!) under one of those snuggly, grandpa cardigans (Quince makes the best one – and it IS freaking 100% cashmere, sheesh).
Well, shit. Last week I recommended this cashmere sweater (I have that exact style from a few years ago), and the new one just came in the mail, and….it’s NOT 100% cashmere. It used to be! And Nordstrom is still showing ‘100% cashmere’ in the description! But now it’s actually 90% wool/10% cashmere. That said, the shape is still freaking perfect, the drape is great, and it IS both shockingly soft and pretty hefty. So do with that what you will. I…haven’t yet decided if I’m sending it back. I’ve yet to find a black cashmere sweater with shape that good, but I am still hunting, so.
Last one left: these playful carnation earrings. All I want is blue right now, and I’ve been wearing mine with graphic tees, jeans, and these ballet flats. Soooooo cute.
Enjoy your weekend!
xo,
S
